The Operational Challenge
In modern metalworking facilities, the available operational footprint around CNC machinery — such as laser or plasma cutters — is frequently limited. Storing large-format sheet metal and transporting it safely to the machine's cutting table traditionally requires significant floor space.
The primary technical constraints in such environments include:
- Pillar jib crane installation requires a dedicated concrete foundation, often impossible in constrained production layouts.
- Multiple operators or a forklift are required to load individual metal sheets onto the CNC processing machine.
- Mechanical transport carries an inherent risk of surface damage or deformation to the sheet metal.

The DS System Technical Solution
To resolve the spatial limitations, an integrated "all-in-one" solution was engineered, combining three distinct material handling units into a single, compact logistical hub.
The custom system consists of the following components:
Constructed from reinforced steel profiles, this unit enables high-density, multi-level storage of sheet metal. Pull-out drawers provide immediate access to specific material batches.
Rather than anchoring to the facility floor, the crane's rotational column was engineered to mount directly onto the structural frame of the cassette rack. The rack's framework was specifically calculated to withstand both the static and dynamic loads generated by the active crane.
Suspended from the crane's hoist, this heavy-duty vacuum lifter is equipped with an adjustable suction pad system, specifically calibrated for handling smooth, dense metal surfaces.

Technical Implementation and Workflow
- 1The operator manually extends the designated cassette drawer containing the required sheet metal.
- 2Using the crane's jib arm, the vacuum lifter is positioned directly above the material.
- 3Utilizing vacuum technology, the sheet is instantly secured without any risk of surface scratching or mechanical distortion.
- 4Controlled via the hoist pendant, the operator lifts the load and uses the rotational arm to transfer the sheet metal directly onto the adjacent CNC cutting table.

Operational Impact
The implementation of the DS System integrated handling unit yielded measurable engineering and organizational improvements:
Utilizing the storage rack as the structural foundation for the jib crane reclaimed valuable floor space, allowing for a higher density of production machinery.
The system completely eliminated manual lifting of heavy loads and reduced hazardous forklift traffic in narrow production aisles.
Decreasing machine loading time minimizes idle time of the laser cutter, directly improving the Overall Equipment Effectiveness of the production cell.
